Linking and Unlinking Templates to Sequence Steps
When creating Email and LinkedIn stages in Sequences, Amplemarket gives you the option to use pre-made templates.
This can save you time and ensure consistency across your outreach efforts. You might have noticed the terms "linked" and "unlinked" templates when working with templates — let’s break down what these mean, how they work, and why you’d want to use each one.
What Does "Linking a Template" Mean?
Think of linking a template as setting up a direct connection between the master template and every sequence stage that uses it. Any change you make to the master template will be reflected instantly in all linked sequences.
Here’s how linking works in more detail:
-
Synchronized Updates:
-
When you link a template to a sequence stage, any updates you make to the master template will be automatically reflected across all sequences where the template is linked.
- Imagine you update the subject line of a template to improve your open rates. With linked templates, this change will immediately be applied to all email stages that are using that particular template
-
- Centralized Statistics:
- Linking also makes it easier to keep track of important stats, like open, replies, and interested rates.
- Since linked templates are used across multiple sequences, all of the performance data is aggregated in one place.
- Non-Editable in Sequences:
- Once you link a template to a sequence stage, the message becomes non-editable from that sequence. This keeps statistics on opens, replies, and interested rates consistent throughout the platform.
- This is because the linked version draws directly from the master copy, ensuring any modifications to the master are instantly applied to all linked stages. To make changes, you must edit the master template itself.
How to Unlink a Template
If you need more control over a specific sequence step or want to make some custom tweaks to the template message, you can unlink a template.
Here’s what happens when you unlink:
- Creating a Local Copy
- Unlinking essentially makes a local copy of the template for that particular sequence step. This copy is now independent—meaning it’s editable without changing the master template or other sequences.
- Breaking Synchronization
- Once unlinked, the synchronization stops. Future updates made to the master template will not be applied to the unlinked version.
Viewing Linked Sequences
On the Templates Page, you can easily see which sequences are using a particular template through the Linked Sequences column.
The number in this column tells you how many sequences are currently linked to the template. Clicking on the count opens up a detailed list of all linked sequences, along with useful information like:
- Sequence Status (e.g., active, paused, or draft)
- Owner Details: Who owns each linked sequence
