Adding Stages to a Live Sequence
You can add new stages to a Sequence while it is live. Here are the main points to know:
-
Where you can add stages:
-
At the beginning, between existing stages, or at the end of the Sequence.
-
-
What happens to leads:
-
If you add a stage at the beginning or in the middle, leads that have not yet reached that point will go through the new stage.
-
If you add a stage at the end, only leads that are still active (not completed yet) will go through the new stage. Leads that have already finished the Sequence will not be affected.
-
-
How it affects your Sequence data:
-
The Sequence will always show the newest version you published.
-
-
Example: Adding a Stage at the Beginning of a Live Sequence
Before Adding a New Stage:
-
The Sequence originally had two stages.
-
25 leads had already completed the first stage (LinkedIn - Profile Visit).
After Adding a New Stage at the Beginning:
-
A new stage (LinkedIn - Like Last Post) was added before the existing ones.
-
You can see that this new stage shows 0 completions because no leads passed through it before it was added.
-
The existing leads remain recorded against the original stages.
As a result, the stage breakdown may not look like a continuous funnel because the added stage has no historical data.
Deleting Stages from a Live Sequence
You can also remove stages from a live Sequence under certain conditions:
-
When you can delete a stage:
-
You cannot delete a stage if it is the only stage in the Sequence.
-
You cannot delete a stage if another stage depends on replies from it.
-
-
What happens to leads:
-
If the deleted stage has another stage after it, leads will move directly to the next stage.
-
If there is no next stage, leads will complete the Sequence once they finish the current stage.
-
-
Impact on your Sequence stats:
-
Deleting a stage does not affect or remove Sequence statistics. Stats are based on the actions of leads, not the current list of stages.
-
Leads who completed an action in a now-deleted stage will still have their activity recorded.
-
Example:
-
Suppose a Sequence has three stages: an Email, a LinkedIn step, and a Call.
-
The Sequence shows a 50% email open rate.
-
If you delete the Email stage, the 50% open rate will remain because the leads who opened the email are still part of the Sequence history.
-
When you view these leads, you will still see that they opened an email as part of the Sequence, even though the email stage was later deleted.
-
-
Because of this, the stages you see today may not exactly match the journey that all leads originally followed.
-
Auditing Changes to Live Sequences
The Activity Logs provide a detailed record of modifications to the Sequence, including additions, deletions, and reordering of stages.
