What do we mean when we refer to tasks?
'Tasks' refer to anything that will populate in your tasks dashboard to be completed. This includes: LinkedIn activities, manual emails, calls (if you’re using the Amplemarket dialer), and generic tasks (things you’ll complete outside of Amplemarket, but can be in your ‘to do’ list.)
Tasks do not refer to automatic emails.
Automatic, autopilot and manual: know the difference!
Emails can either be automatic or manual. If they’re automatic, they are sent out with no prompting from you, in the sending window you’ve set in your sequence template. If you’ve opted to make an email manual, it will populate in your tasks to be completed one by one.
Autopilot refers to LinkedIn activities that require you ‘start the car’ in order for them to be completed. They are not fully automatic like email, but you can complete a large batch with one click.
Full explanation of these three terms here:
In your sequence templates, you can change a stage from automatic (email) or autopilot (LinkedIn step) to manual by turning off the automatic or autopilot toggle.
Your tasks dashboard view
The tasks page displays everything that is due or overdue in your ‘Due’ tab. To the right of it, you can find your ‘Upcoming’ tasks. You can complete these early if you’d like! Further to the right you can see all of the tasks you’ve completed and skipped.
If you skip a task or a batch of tasks by accident, an undo button will pop up. This is your best chance to recover these tasks. If the sequence moves to the next stage, the tasks cannot be retrieved.
There are a number of filters on the tasks page that can help you create your workflow. Filter by due date, type of task, manual versus autopilot, sequence, sequence template, or even search for a contact individually.
You can complete and skip tasks in bulk. Using the dropdown menu, select ‘All’ and click either execute (in blue) or skip.
Managing your to-do list by task type
Manual emails: If you want to personalize a piece of an email, you can choose to make it manual. This means that you’ll manually confirm the content and send each email to a lead you’ve added to that sequence.
A common successful flow we’ve seen regarding manual email is using it as a first touch, then following up with LinkedIn steps and automatic emails. Keep in mind that a manual email is completed one by one, so it might be daunting for sequences with large numbers of leads.
LinkedIn actions: We recommend running LinkedIn actions as autopilot. This way, all you have to do is start your sequence, let them populate on the tasks page, select the tasks you'd like to complete, and click 'Execute.' You can even start autopilot tasks via the shortcut button at the top of every page.
Call steps: If you are using the Amplemarket dialer, calls in your sequence will populate as tasks to complete. Use the space in the template to add your script. If you aren't using the dialer, but are completing call tasks with another tool, log those as generic tasks so that you can include them in your workflow.
Here’s how to execute manual emails in tasks:
When a manual email is the next stage (or first stage) of a started sequence, you’ll see it populate in your tasks page. Filter the task by type, and choose ‘email.’ Select one, a few, or all of the emails to be sent, and click the blue ‘Execute task’ button. The Amplemarket extension will open up, and you’ll see any content you included when creating the sequence. Before sending, add any personalization that you’d like. You can also opt to cc or bcc someone onto the message. When you’re ready, click send. You’ll get moved to the next email task you selected automatically. When you’re done, you get a congrats message!
Autopilot LinkedIn steps:
To complete autopilot LinkedIn steps, go to your tasks page. Filter by type, or select the steps you’d like to complete. Click the blue ‘Execute task’ button.’ This will open a LinkedIn tab, where you can follow the tasks progress in real time. Keep the tab open until it says your activities have been completed.
Handling ‘missing data’ in Sequence Templates
When you create a Sequence template, there are some Advanced settings that may be relevant for you. When including call tasks in your template, you can choose to automatically skip the task if it is missing data. In this instance, missing data means that we cannot find a phone number for the lead.
